I don't think I am, but could easily be missing the argument,  - but not 
withstanding the obvious doubts, I'm merely approaching his text through 
the introductory statement which was obviously written at the end...  
the point of which seems to be contrary to the possible argument you are 
proposing.

If he'd been less universalist I'd  be feeling more sympathetic...
