From: "Eric" <ericandmary-AT-earthlink.net> Subject: RE: zizek notes- triangulation - "Spinoza-multitude-Negri/Hardt" Date: Thu, 4 Dec 2003 20:50:43 -0600 Steve, I really don't think Zizek is arguing that Deleuze is an apologist for late capitalism. Is that really your reading? I think I could provide counterexamples, if called upon. And if Zizek can be construed as a supporter of the third way, then the phrase becomes meaningless. Please explain to me how Zizek is really Tony Blair? The fact is there is something jacobian about Badiou and Zizek is insightful to point this out. This doesn't prevent Badiou from being an important philosopher, one from whom Zizek borrows rather freely.... You forgot to point out that Zizek doesn't say a lot about Hume, Bergson or Leibnitz either. My stance is that Zizek is doing a good job of covering Zizek, even if he isn't taking a totally comprehensive approach. I also don't find a similar urgency to frame philosophy is psychoanalytical terms, nor I think this symbolic/real structure you imply is necessary, really is. You haven't assumed the role here of defending Deleuze against Zizek, which I am finding fascinating on various grounds, insofar as you never previously seemed all that Deleuzian. For the record, I don't consider myself anti-Deleuzian; I certainly am still very much informed by his philosophy, but I think both Badiou and Zizek have some interesting comments and insights regarding his philosophy, which I am trying to understand more deeply (I hope with the help of others here.) My concern is that your approach is too much of a rush to judgment; without really considering to extent to which these counterarguments may have some validity. eric have you gotten to the section on Kant, Hegel yet? I think some very interesting things are being said here about Kant's approach to philosophy and the way we are all Kantians now. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
