all,
relating the actual discourse to le differend i would say it should be tied to the concept of the language games or the heterogenity of discourse. 
there's the economic, capitalistic way of looking at things, the most powerful, but it is not prevailing everything else. there are even side effects, like terrorism perhaps or people getting fat mcdonalds making profit out of it but on the other hand you have the upcoming costs for treatments of people getting severe diseases from bad food. if you consider this the economic gain seems less. i think if the economic way of thinking becomes obsessive it cannot follow up to its own criteria any more either.
it wouldn't be too difficult to imagine alternatives, at least there are alternative levels of discourse. although many people say they are not powerful, they do not change anything.
