Following up on Karen's post, along the same lines - we don't need a
"political" moderator. Do we?
Does anyone have any objection to indicating in the official announcement of
the list and its description on the Spoon's web page that it be an
"unmoderated" list, with technical questions to be referred to
Sally?

Per Maglosia's description of the duties of a moderator (below
and last paragraph particularly), the decision seems to be up to
Sally who's indicated a reluctance for non-technical
moderation anyway.

Sally, way to go! & this seems to be right up your alley.
I love the idea of a cgi script (whatever that is) to enable us to
search the archives by key word. Any plans along those lines for
any of the Spoons' marxism lists?

How about a cgi script to search the archives by key word? Anyway, I could
use the perks: health club membership, travel vouchers, child care, etc.
But I'd sooner change places with Kate timing contractions than try to
"moderate" discussion.

-------
What does a moderator need to do?

- Look at hir e-mail at least once a day to make sure the list hasn't
  developed, say, an error-message loop or some other technical problem;
contact the Spoon Collective if help is needed.

- Answer administrative questions/suggestions from subscribers.

- Learn (from, say, me) a few simple administrative commands so as to
be able to update the info sheet and occasionally help people sub and unsub.

- Subscribe to the marx-administration list, which is a communication platform
for all the moderators of Spoon marxism lists.

These are the basic things without which the list will not be able to
function.
Obviously, a moderator can also try to stimulate/shape discussion on the list,
etc., depending on hir vision, time, inclinations -- but these things are
up to each person.

Well, I'm here, but definitely in lurk mode most all the time.
Sally, I think you would be a dandy list moderator, technical or
political.
