Hi,

In response to Martha, I too am new to the list, and I too have been quite
disheartened and confused by the recent activity on the list.

Martha - I like your approach and think your ideas on how to best moderate
the list are sound, you have my support.

Regarding the issue of male participation - this is something that should
be considered carefully. At this point I am not convinced 100% either way.

Regarding the issue of motherhood and self identity - I think it is a very
interesting issue regarding the reproduction of labour. I would like to
see it picked up as a theoretical issue and discussed on the list, because
'the glory of motherhood' is a very powerful discourse that seems to be
almost immune to attempts to deconstruct it.

Regarding Freud - as an ex-psychologist my opinion is that while some of
Freud's ideas lead to very useful tools for helping people develop insight
- his theories provide no useful treatment. In fact, all the research to
date indicates that when people undergoing psychoanalysis are compared with
people with the same type of complaints having no treatment - the two
groups have the same proportion of improvements in behaviour and mood and
the same relapse rate.

Have a nice day to all :)

Kylie.
