Date: Sat, 5 Jul 1997 22:36:46 -0500 (CDT) To all concerned, Could we all just back up a little bit? The postings in this exchange do (in part in despite of themselves) raise issues that are of immense importance to the socialist future, and it would be well if we could extricate the issues from the personalities that became involved.es that The workers' movement over the last two hundred years *does*, on the whole, have a terrible record in regards to both gender and (esp. in the U.S.) race. As an empirical fact, then, there isently a necessity for some sort of independent organization for women and African Americans. It is not a matter of whether whites/males are or are not trustworthy or whether women/blacks could/should "trust" men, but the historical *fact* that without some inde- pendence they *cannot*. That does not mean that this list should be for women only; I think that would a loss for everyone. I think it means that we have to explore our way carefully. We have already lost too many subscribers who would/could have been valuable members. Carrol
