When those thugs implement their "maximum programme,"
there won't be women working in the medical sector, or
working socially, or working anywhere outside of the
home in the forced seclusion of purdah.

Renate reminds us that these are the "freedom fighters"
funded by the bipartisan US ruling apparatus. The village
priests and mullahs are "free" to enforce purdah and the
bridal price.

The word "veil" in English connotes a dainty white lace
bridal veil, quite unlike the heavy black chador. By right
of geography and physical climate, Afghanistan ought to be
the perfect place for a tuberculosis sanitarium. Instead,
even before the Soviet intervention its rate of tuberculosis
*among women* was the highest in the world.

Even when it is less sensational that the execution
of a Saudi royal princess, purdah is murder.
