I would submit that "Honoring" is always the flip side of contempt, pity
and loathing.  Lucky is the person who goes to hir grave without ever
having been "honored" as one thing or another.  There _are_, I think, other 
forms of honoring, but one of their most salient features is that they don't
declare or advertise themselves; they just do their job, silently and 
un-self-consciously.
