Louis G, the reason I discussed pre WWI Ireland was because
this related to the period that Louis P discussed in his post.
It seemed to me to illustrate the strengths and weakenesses of
syndicalism in the face of a divided working class, which was
the dominant feature on the left during the period(s) in US Labor
history that he was referring to.

My message was more a reply to his post than yours.

I'll try and argue my case about Europe today, you argue
yours, and we'll see how we get on. OK ?

I think Europe is politically and economically unstable. I think
there is a polarisation to left and right in every country in Europe.
I think the situation can best be described as volatile - sudden
outbursts of mass strikes along with the growth of the far right.
Overall, the situation is a good one for revolutionary socialists, if
they know how to take advantage of such a situation.

I'm not asking you to agree with me.
But please be a little more pleasant.

Adam.
