Two things.

1) Don't wait till the organization's perfect -- it won't be. The
Bolsheviks weren't in 1917. Get in as early as you can.

2) Help us on our way. Nothing like rank-and-file pressure from workers to
force leaderships to show where they stand on prestige, shibboleths,
sectarian divisions or revolutionary working-class unity.

Also Jon, if you joined, you wouldn't be rank-and-file for very long.
Pressure from you and the workers around you would make itself felt pretty
fast, too.

You've had lots of useful practice making demands on the bosses. That's
excellent experience for influencing the policies and methods of
working-class revolutionary parties.

You're part of the vanguard of the working class. My guess is that the day
you feel you have more clout in a party than outside one, will be the day
you join.

Cheers,

Hugh
