Please understand, Jay, that I'm *defending Mao Zedong* against
the *vile attacks* on him by the Avakianists - attacks that *you're
supporting*, perhaps out of lack of knowledge, perhaps for some
other reason(s). I don't know yet *why* it is that you're supporting
them.

These vile attacks on Mao consist, i.a., in massive *support* of the
4-Gang and their line, which Mao Zedong *fought against* just as
intensively as he fought against the other deviation at that time,
that of Deng Xiaoping.

Despite the picture you're trying to paint out (and which may be
the one that you have in your head), I am *not* defending Hua
Guofeng. He in his time was appointed to the highest posts on the
proposal of Mao Zedong, who had confidence in him. And Hua correctly
struck down the reactionary 4-Gang. But later, under I don't know
more exactly what pressure, he openly *betrayed* Mao Zedong's line.

Concerning Hua Guofeng, you may have noticed what I quoted in one
of the postings on 29.12 in reply to you, and posted for the first
time in the very first of my Infos, #1en, as a quote from the
former NE:

>We absolutely repudiate both the line "KPD" / Deng Xiaoping /
>Hua Guofeng and also the line "Roter Morgen" / "Gang of Four".

It's no good trying, as you do, to defend the Avakianists' attacks
on the line of Mao Zedong (whatever may be the reason behind
your doing so) by saying that they are directed, "not" at Mao but
"at Hua Guofeng". The Trotskyite line of the 4-Gang will *not*
become any better because of this.

Please read my reply to you (in several postings) on 29.12
- and also, if you haven't done so before, that refutation of
the Avakianists' story which I already had made earlier, in my
Info #22en - and then tell people, when you're ready for this,
what you think of what I wrote.

Rolf M.
