I am not subscribed there at present and don't know where would be suitable. Many thanks (and good wishes for the New Year) _______________________________________________________ Nils Dahl With sadness I write to announce the death of Nils Dahl yesterday in Norway, aged 88. Revolutionary History will publish a full obituary as soon as possible. Nils will be best known for the help he gave to Trotsky during his exile in Norway in 1935 - 36. In his account in Revolutionary History Vol 2 No 2 Nils recalls Trotsky and Sedova living in a hut in the woods near Honefoss while Trotsky was preparing 'The Revolution Betrayed'. Nils also contributed to the material we published on the fate of Walter Held (Vol 1 No 2), and some additional articles on British policy in the 1940s, which we will make available on our web site in the near future. In the 1950s he published some memoirs in Swedish. I will try to find a reference and include it in our web site notes. Nils' last political contribution was to send a greeting to the Moscow conference this autumn to mark 60 years since the publication of 'The Revolution Betrayed'. For many years he lived in London with Mildred Gordon MP (the widow of Sam Gordon who was for some years the secretary of the Fourth International). Mildred supported and cared for Nils through his illness of the last few years, and eventually arranged for his return to Norway late in 1996. We extend our condolences to Mildred and to the Dahl family. Anders Ekland (andersek-AT-sn.no) has kindly agreed to receive any email messages >from comrades to be read at the funeral (which will take place next wednesday). We understand it will be a family funeral but Mildred is intending to ensure that a red flag is shown. Revolutionary History would be very grateful if comrades on the internet could pass this information along to their organisations, and to any older members of the movement who may have known Nils, so that the passing of this veteran can be properly marked. _________________________________ jplant-AT-cix.compulink.co.uk _________________________________ jplant-AT-cix.compulink.co.uk --- from list marxism-general-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
