Captive Peruvian Officials Replaced

Fujimori: "Anyone wanna buy some slightly used officials, cheap?"

LIMA,Peru - Peruvian dictator Alberto Fujimori on Thursday
replaced several top officials among the 74 VIPs still held
captive at a diplomatic compound.

Over the past two weeks the MRTA have freed more than 400
hostages, but they still hold high-profile executives,
diplomats and officials - including the Japanese and Bolivian
ambassadors and a brother of the dictator, Pedro Fujimori.

Among the captive government officials being replaced
are six generals, including two in charge of security matters.
The two are Gen. Maximo Rivera Diaz, in charge of
anti-terrorism, and Gen. Guillermo Bobbio, head of state
security. Both are with the National Police. Rivera was
replaced by Gen. Marcel Nakamura, and Bobbio was replaced by
Gen. Arturo Marquina.

The government order signed by Fujimori gave no
explanation for the replacements. A former anti-terrorist
chief, Hector Caro, told Radio Programas that reshuffling of
important posts in the security forces and courts were
routine in the New Year.

But there was speculation that the security officials
were dropped because they were caught off guard by the
attack on the Japanese ambassador's residence. Some of
the MRTA gained entrance by posing as waiters for the
big bourgeois celebration of the Japanese emperor's
birthday. No doubt these security big-shots were very
careless, being drunk on the blood of thousands of
good innocent Peruvian peoples murdered by the fascist
regime lead by their fickle leader, Fujimori.

The president of Peru's Supreme Court, Moises Pantoja,
also was replaced. His term ran out at the end of the year,
and Victor Raul Castillo was sworn in as his replacement at
the Palace of Injustice. Several other Supreme Court
justices are among the hostages.
