When 100 people assembled to protest against this, the police attacked them, directing their horses straight into the crowd, beating several people with sticks and taking some of the anti-fascists into custody. This is a flagrant provocation and an instance of pro- Nazi police brutality of a kind that has not been seen in this city before. It must arouse everybody's strongest protest! The context in which this thus protected Nazi gathering took place also is noteworthy. Such a gathering these cliques otherwise have not dared try here in town since 20.08.1994, when, after calls for action by myself and by others, an attempted "demonstration" was stopped by some 500 anti-facsists despite the police's attempt with considerable forces to protect it. But precisely yesterday, on the same day that the Committee Save Barseb=E4ck held a small but politically quite important street meeting (in which I participated) in central Malm=F6 against an expected reactionary and criminal decision by the Swedish parliament next Tuesday - a meeting which had been planned and announced since 16.05 - that Nazi clique came forward again, to perpetrate their provocation one hour before that meeting and at a place less than 300 meters away from it. A coincidence perhaps? Quite possibly not. Whatever the root origins and cause, yesterday's police attack here in Malm=F6 is a new and serious development. Such things absolutely must be combated and resisted! Rolf M. --- from list marxism-general-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
