Subject: M-G: Olympics Question...

I was wondering whether some comrade could help me out a bit.

Now that Athens has won the dubious honor of hosting the Olympics, claims
are being made by boosters that the Olympics --if handled by private
enterprise and businesses-- will shower Greece with untold riches as
millions upon millions of dollars will flow like a river through the
country. Most important in these claims are the expected vast
improvements in Greece's infrastructure that will more or less propel the
country into the status of a "real" European economy!!
The Atlanta Olympics are claimed to have left $300 million in net profit.

I seem to recall that the Atlanta Olympics were a bust and that the
effects of the games on the region were nothing to brag about.

Does anybody have comments or a better grip on this?

Power to the People!
Dennis
