 Subject: Short report from Finland
--

Here's some extracts from a report made by Solidaarisuus. I will refer also
the future reports if there's something interesting. One of our members was
released from prison yesterday morning, he had 48 days sentence for refusing
to pay fines from ecological sabotage. We have also prisoners for
consciencious objecting, some of them have anarchist, some pasifist
convinction.

>We are growing steadily, there is now 28 paid members. I was last
>Sunday in Tampere where there founding meeting of
>Solidaarisuus-Tampere. Besides me there was 10 people present,
>two of which were Solidaarisuus members from Tampere. It was pretty
>good meeting, and I guess most of people present will join.
>So now we have branch in Helsinki and Tampere, and there should be new
>one in Hameenlinna soon. Besides that, we have members in Turku,
>Kuopio and Tornio plus some countryside places.
>
>Most important project just now is demonstration we are organising
>for six hour day, social security and public services. It will be on
>December 6th, Finnish Independence day. It is on this day, because
>there will be big televised annual party for ruling class in
>President's Palace and we going to ruin it by organising demo just
>outside Palace. We are working hard to reach out especially unemployed
>and poor in general for this demonstration.
>
>We've made some positive contacts with unemployed associations, and
>hopefully this demo will go well, so that we can work together with them
>in future.
>
>New issue of "Solidaarisuus" is out again, it is # 5 altogether and
>4th this year. We are bit late of our goal to make six magazines a
>year, but hopefully we'll get it done more easily when we get more
>writers. I guess we could send you magazines, maybe someone could
>read bit of them (Harry Siitonen, at least).
>
>There is also new intoductory leaflet about "Solidaarisuus", and we
>already mention in it, that we are part of IWW. Hopefully this is OK,
>although, we still haven't made paperwork...
>
>It is maybe already told to you, but we have made our own versions of
>"Fire your boss!" - badges ("Erota pomosi" in Finnish). It seems they
>might become a hit ! We are soon producing our stickers with text:
>"SLOW DOWN !
>There are hundreds of thousands unemployed. Why take
>their jobs with unnecessary sweating ? More humane working speed is
>our common interest." (this in Finnish, of course...)
>Unemployment in Finland is around 15 % and at
>the same time people are burned out with inhumane burden of work.
>Stickers are one easy way to fight this madness of capitalism...
