Date: Sat, 20 Dec 1997 00:03:18 +0000 From: Chris Burford <cburford-AT-gn.apc.org> Subject: M-G: Last example of unsolicited private mail Up to now I have received only three examples of unsolicited private mail from the Flynn, Murray, Phelan group: one purporting to come from Charlotte Kates and asking "Who is Thomas Murray?"; the third was the post from LRF that I returned to the list, when I dared to ask why the name changed from Liam Flynn; and the second was in response to a mail I sent to m-international. I do not recall the name of Roger Phelan contributing to that list before that time though exactly around this time he forwarded two posts from Liam Flynn to m-international. Although I have been challenged on a number of points in posts over the last few months about Ireland on the list, to challenge me in private in such a crass way was a form of harrassment which could contribute nothing to the life of the list. It seems to me that these are probably two or at the most three people working together under various pseudonyms and list addresses to create drama, mystery, confusion and incomprehensible discord. Whether they have any coherent political position, and if so why they would want to promote it by creating so much distrust in their motives, is as yet unclear to me. Perhaps they would like to clarify politically what they agree on and what their differences are, if they have not already been expelled. I think this is better analysed in terms of ecology. A new invader to an eco-system can make more headway against rivals if it has a method for weakening them or making them use up their energy unproductively. They do this by tangling people up in confusing private mail, including intimidating references to lawyers. I think the remedy is to return all unsolicited private mails to this list openly, to expose what is going on and to increase the pressure for their expulsion.
