Dear Comrade Chris,

I think you have got the wrong handle entirely on what happened in the
north of Ireland (by the way Ireland is not a 'British Isle') and also
it seems what has and is happening in places like South Africa,
Israel/Palestine and Nicaragua. These 'conflict resolutions' are
imperialist offensives against the oppressed dressed up in the neo-
liberal clothing of 'democracy' and 'peace'. In fact there will be no
peace in the north of Ireland. All that has happened now is Sinn Fein is
co-opted to police inequality in the nationalist community. Others are
already emerging who will continue the battle.

We cannot conclude from the fact the the 'armed struggle' was a dead end
that no struggle is possible or that this agreement will facilitate the
emergence of a united working class. The marching season will bring out
the truth. The Loyalist will be even more triumphalist about their great
victory over the nationalists. Croppy will not only be told to lie
down, he will be jumped upon from a great height.

A new Republican Congress, like the 1934 one, should be convened by all
serious anti-imperialists and socialists in Ireland who oppose this
fraudalent agreement and the major defeat that it threatens. Mass
mobilisation is the only answer to the eletism of the 'armed struggle'.
But they should demand that arms are not surrendered. They should demand
that Sinn Fein does not co-operate with the RUC in policing the
nationalists - and cease immediatedly the barbaric practices of beatings
and knee-capping for 'drug dealing' and joy riding etc.

The southern working class is mobilising again against 'parternership'
and greedy Celtic Tiger bosses. The struggle to unite Itelnad must be
seen in the context of Permemant Revolution - only the working class
under revolutionary leadership can bring socialism, peace and progress -
but first they must defend the nationalist community from the coming
assaults, must put the unity of Ireland in the first place and must
secure British wirthdrawal and the defeat of reactionary Loyalism. This
agrreement strengthens all these things - so how will it possibly bring
the working class closer toghther? No it will confirm and strengthen
Loyalist reaction - their god-given right to discriminate has been
agreed to by London, Dublin, the SDLP and Sinn Fein - surely it must be
a legitimate political aspiration to keep croppy down?
