Subject: M-I: Re: Notes on Jim Petras

Jim Petras was a member of the SWP in the Bay Area in the early 60s. He
joined the common opposition group I formed with Jim Robertson. When
Robertson and I split, while still within the SWP, Petras supported me.
Then, after a short while, he dropped out of organized Trotskyist politics
to pursue an academic career. Considering the state of "organized Trotskyist
politics" at the time, who could blame him?

I would generally agree with Louis' critique of his approach to Sandinistas
and elections. Well, now there is one hell of an election going on in
Nicaragua. Lets see how it turns out. Be interested in comments from this
list however it goes!
