The problem is that they *are*.  People laugh at such jokes--and some 
can be very funny.

This is not to condone offensive jokes, of course, but to note that it is 
part of the study of ideology and the capitalist regulation of affect to 
understand that even our bodily "reflexes" (laughter etc.) are not 
entirely our own.
