From: "Rosser Jr, John Barkley" <rosserjb-AT-jmu.edu> Subject: M-I: vanity publications Date: Tue, 12 Nov 1996 13:21:19 -0500 () Well, I suppose that I should not take the bait on this, but since good old Uncle Lou has decided to engage in such jibes I might as well set the record straight as regards what he claims are my "vanity publications" (on the basis of their not being in the Columbia U. Library, that universal fount of wisdom). I have published numerous articles in numerous outlets on numerous topics, too numerous to bore this list with. However, I am also the author or co-author of two books. The first is _From Catastrophe to Chaos: A General Theory of Economic Discontinuities_, 1991, Boston: Kluwer Academic Publishers. It received universally highly favorable reviews and is in its third printing. I am now working on the second edition of it for KAP. The other book, to which Lou made reference, is co-authored with my wife, Marina Vcherashnaya Rosser, and is entitled, _Comparative Economics in a Transforming World Economy_, 1996, Chicago: Richard D. Irwin. It is a textbook and thus unlikely to be in the Columbia U. Library. It is in its second printing, has been adopted for use at Harvard (Louis Godena's former hangout) and Stanford, and the publisher wants a second edition, but no contract has been signed yet (one element of confusion is that Irwin has just been bought out by McGraw-Hill, ah, the vicissitudes of publishing!). There is a brief discussion of the PCP in that book, which I posted at one point on the old M1, asking for reactions to it, without stating where it came from. None other than Lou's big eventual pal, the inimitable Adolfo Olaechea, declared that it was "essentially correct." There was no discussion of cannibalism in Guangxi Province during the GPCR in that book. It is true that I brought this topic up on the list after reading of a new book by a Chinese author reporting on these allegations. The immediate response on the list was to either confirm this >from other sources (several people) or to deny it as "obviously" being a bunch of capitalist propaganda. I made a few jokes later about those who made such remarks, such as the glorious Adolfo. That triggered good old Lou to go on and on about this topic on many subsequent postings, as if it was utterly ridiculous. Of course, good old Lou has never seen fit to address the facts of the matter. If it is so funny, then why don't you present some contrary evidence, Lou, rather than coming on like some neo-Nazi making jokes about the Holocaust, eh? J.
