From: cbcox-AT-rs6000.cmp.ilstu.edu (Carrol Cox) Subject: Re: M-I: sex-ism. Scheetz should get off the list! Date: Sun, 17 Nov 1996 17:39:58 -0600 (CST) As Louis P has pointed out, raising the issue of abortion seems an almost deliberate attempt at simply wasting bandwidth and baiting others to be really wasteful of it also. From now on I shall neither read Scheetz nor waste words on him. But any such slimy remarks as he has made require at least one rejoinder. As I said at the time of the Jazewski flames, I regard attacks on abortion from anyone pretending to be either marxist or working class as acts of class treason. As I also said at that time, I regard even the claim that abortion is a moral issue (rather than a perfectly whimsical decision for the woman involved) as itself an immoral and misogynous act: it is an illegitimate effort to place social or moral pressure on a woman to consider other than her own interests in deciding whether to have an abortion or not. I While political/legal threats to abortion rights are still most serious, yet more serious at the present time are the ways in which such social/"moral" pressures confuse women, particularly young women, and make it difficult for them to exercize their legal rights. I hope Gay does not let Scheetz's piggish attacks hamper heraagf in participating in this list. Carrol --- from list marxism-international-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
