Hello listfolk,

First, I'm around and following most of the list, but I haven't been
contributing much. This is mainly due to serious political questions /
challenges we face here. My mind has been occupied to much with local
politics, and only recently have I been able to formulate some of the
questions - before that, it was a big confused mix of semi-questions that
couldn't really be shared with or expressed to an international audience. As
Lou (P) says, we're trying to "go concrete" over here.

Now, as one of the moderators, I'd like to tell you all that Lou has not yet
urged the other moderators to expell or warn the IS members. Or in fact,
anyone else, really. I should confess that mild-mannered-me is the most
heavy-handed moderator. Even during the initial discussion on what kind of a
list we wanted, Lou (G) always cautioned against over-moderation and
censorship. I'm convinced that he is more than fit to be a moderator.

On the other question, I personally think that his remark that the IS has a
"long history of supporting the Nazis" is unfair. However, he is making
historical claims regarding events, so it is not the same as just calling
someone a "fascist" as a general political insult. My personal political
opinion is such discussion gets us nowhere. The period in which Soviet Union
was a major dividing line in the left is over, for better or worse. Most of
the divisions, and "taking side"s from that era, are anulled. Those that
want to keep them alive can do so. Insisting on being irrelevant is no crime.

Zeynep
