     Two further observations are that, although Gorby 
denounced the Hungarians for borrowing from westerners in a 
profligate manner, he imitated them, and also he left 
agriculture collectivized, just as had the Hungarians.  One 
has to look hard to find a model that Gorby was imitating 
more than the Hungarian one.  He may have lusted after 
western goodies, with Raisa pushing him with her AMEX gold 
card, but he remained in the eastern mold in many ways, 
including maintaining ultimate control in the hands of the 
CP and resisting major privatizations.
