From: wdrb-AT-siva.bris.ac.uk Date: Wed, 18 Dec 1996 17:34:38 GMT Subject: RE: M-I: Red Feminism I was interested in this article but disturbed by the following notion: <<it is necessary to support, as a strategic matter, the national state as a site where reforms and rights must be fought for and protected.>>> I believe that the nation state and the politics of nationalism and nationality are the principal ideologies used by the ruling class to divide the working class and am dubious over any strategy seeking to support the nation state against the world market....certainly by those living in powerful, industrialised nations. I was not clear what if any role 'feminism' was to play in 'Red Feminism'. Having said that, last week I attended a meeting of a small left discussion group 'The Bristol Marxist Forum' and the discussion was on Marxism and Feminism. In attendance were 7 women and 6 men, two lesbian seperatists, three members of the RCP, a union full time official, an ex member of the WRP, several active trade unionistsand a maoist. It was the most profound and interesting discussion I have witnessed for a good long while, cheers to all will brown Bristol --- from list marxism-international-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
