=09This is an invitation to attend a special conference for labour
activists to be held on  the World Wide Web in January, 1997.

=09Entitled "Labour and the Internet" the conference will bring together
hundreds of labour activists from around the world to discuss how they
and their unions are using the Internet to build a better labour
movement. It promises to be an exciting and historic event and we'd
like to you to be there.

=09The conference will be conducted from January 6 to January 31, 1997. It
will be moderated by Eric Lee, the author of the recently  published
book: "Labour and the Internet: The New Internationalism".

=09It will take place on the Solidarity Network (SoliNet) which is a
WEB-based conferencing system owned by the Canadian Union of Public
Employees.

=09The conference is part of a series of seminars being conducted on
SoliNet in 1997. The others conferences include:


February 1 - February 28:          THE INTERNET AND LABOUR IN THE THIRD
WORLD
March 1 - March 30:                  TECHNOLOGY ORGANIZING
April 1 - April 30:                         LABOUR MOVEMENTS IN THE
WORLD
May 1 to May 31:                       THE RUSSIAN LABOUR MOVEMENT
June 1 to June 30:                     EDUCATION IN THE GLOBAL ECONOMY




=09To join SoliNet (which is, of course, free of charge) please point your
WEB browser to:

=09Under the CONFERENCES button you will find a REGISTER icon. As soon as
we have received your registration information we will send you a
username and password.

=09If you are already a SoliNet member and have forgotten your
password...don't be shy. Just let us know and we'll send you a new
one.

=09Once you have entered SoliNet you will have to use the JOIN CONFERENCE
command to enter the conference entitled   LABORINTERNET. 
Instructions for how to do that are attached.

=09The conference will not be available for joining until January 6. But,
in the meantime you can join SoliNet's other conferences, such as the
LOUNGE.

=09You may be especially interested in SoliNotes - SoliNet's weekly
international news service.


=09Please come join us for Eric Lee's seminar "Labour and  the Internet".  
We will be publishing a proceedings of the conference. We  need your
participation  so that we can all learn  how to use the Internet for
building a stronger labour movement.

INSTRUCTIONS
FOR JOINING THE
LABORINTERNET
CONFERENCE                         
ON SOLINET



        When you join SoliNet you are automatically entered into a
number of conferences. You will see a list of these conferences once
you have entered the conferencing area.

        However when new conferences, which you are eligible to join,
are created they do not automatically appear on your conference list.

        You can tell when a new conference has been made available to
you when you see the NEW icon beside the JOIN CONFERENCE command at
the top of the screen.


         Once you have joined the SoliNet conferencing  section do this
stuff to enter the LABORINTERNET conference

        1. Click on JOIN CONFERENCE at the top of the screen, when you
are in the CONFERENCE LIST section.


        2. Click in the little box beside the name of the conference you
want to join (LABORINTERNET)

                               
        3. Click on JOIN at the bottom of the page.

                You will be told you have joined the conference.


        4. Click on JOINED CONFERENCES WITH UNREAD MESSAGES in the top
box.

       
        5. Enter the conference by clicking on the name of the
conference.
