Correct!  My best guess is that the poet is referring to chick-peas sold 
at Communist Party meetings in local neighborhoods, for bingo games most 
likely.  In the midst of a lot of noise and anger on this list lately, I 
would like once again like to indicate that as something as worthy as 
good polemical skills:  moments of peace among people who are at some 
level more in agreement with each other than they are in disagreement.  
Thinking this makes me Menshevik?  Okay.
