Capitalism did not arise out of the rising and falling of relatively equal actors, it arose out of feudalism. Exploitation does not come from wage or even asset inequality, but the constitution of ownership rights. If a wealthy person cannot hire a wage worker without giving that worker an equal share in the firm, he cannot exploit him - in the strict sense. Naturally, inequalities of wealth create inequalities of influence in the greater economy - enter the state with lawyers, guns and MONEY to help the lagging worker into warm, sexy relationships with brand new capitals, and slice the naughty monopolists into so many "Baby Bells".
