Subject: M-I: Workers take a Holiday

Today in the shop, at the time of day arrived that finds the work mostly done
but quitting time aways off yet, and someone gets picked as a target for
ribbing, I was baited about getting paid for the President's day holiday.

"You complain about capitalism, but don't object to getting paid for a day off"
was the gist of the matter, expressing all the ignorance of the source of
workers' hard won social benefits. I promised the parties involved a good
lecture on how holidays were won, when I returned from my weekend.

I have a few labor histories around, but can any of the list experts point me
towards some good sources specifically on the winning of paid holidays?

Thanks,

Jon Flanders
