Subject: M-I: Magnitogorsk


Magnitogorsk is a place I have visited. It was largely reconstructed
(the city I mean) after the war by German POWs. It is a very remarkable
place and well worth visiting. I have many friends there. The rector of
the Institute of Metallurgy is a very clever Marxist.I was very
interested by Kotkin's account of it, and he also spent some time there.
