Subject: Re: M-I: USSR again

		To whom...,

Aren't we forgetting the role of Russian (as opposed to ideologically
Soviet) expansionism in the hostilities? The simple fact of the Iron
Curtain, which the post-Stalin USSR did not exactly abandon, is enough to
provoke anybody, and we didn't need much provoking.

It seems to me that Communism was just a convenience on both sides.
The Russians could use it to prop up their miserable system, and we could use
it to tear them down (and anybody else who was inconvenient). Our
anti-communism was immoral, but their "Communism" was at least morally
bankrupt.

It seems to me that the downfall of the Soviet Union takes the
blinders off and shows the ugly reality of the world. On the down side, the
Russian thugs are much richer, the Russian people are poorer, and the
Capitalist goons tout their "victory" to anyone who'll listen, or who cares.
On the up side, Eastern Europe has more breathing room, no one sits around
planning major invasions any more, and Socialism can move out of the shadow
of the Red Menace. The Soviet idea was a fool's paradise, and I say "Good
riddance." Let's get on with the Revolution.

	peace
