From: wdrb-AT-siva.bris.ac.uk Date: Wed, 26 Feb 1997 17:49:29 GMT Subject: M-I: Indian solidarity for Hillingdon For those interested in recent incidents of international trade union support, here is a message from the Indian Trade Unions to the Hillingdon strikers. In brief, a group af of mainly Asian women cleaners (less than 100) have been locked out and sacked for protesting against pay cuts in their jobs as hospital cleaners in London. After a year they have had support withdrawn by the national leadership of their union but fight on regardless with rank and file support. They are one of several (Liverpool Dockers, Magnet Kitchens) protracted disputes that are seeking international perspectives in the UK at present. Will Brown Bristol <<<< All India Central Council of Trade Unions (AICCTU) Calcutta 20.02.97 Message of Solidarity from AICCTU to the Heroic Hillingdon Fighters Dear Comrades, This message of solidarity comes to you from the All India Central Council of Trade Unions and from many other fellow comrades attending the Fourth Indian Ocean Regional TU Conference (IORTUC) now underway in Calcutta. We had heard about your struggle from comrades of the South Asia Solidarity Group in London and also read about it in a recent issue of Inquilab. And here in the IORTUC we were glad to hear from comrades from the Liverpool Dockers' movement that despite betrayal by the trade union establishment of Britain you are still carrying forward your struggle. We are sending this small note to salute your fighting unity, courage and determination. We firmly believe that through your inspiring action you are not only reclaiming and rejuvenating the progressive elements of working class tradition and culture in Britain but more importantly you are also contributing to the process of finding new answers to new problems. While wishing you every success in this effort let us tell you that we believe that you have already achieved a significant victory. Your struggle stands out as a reassuring expression of the proletarian power and resolve to combat the racist and dehumanising offensive of imperialist capital. Along with this message of solidarity, we are also taking this opportunity to send through the Liverpool comrades a few copies of the latest issue of our newsletter and some picture cards we had issued at the time of our last conference. With warm greetings of international working class solidarity.
