From: Zeynep Tufekcioglu <zeynept-AT-turk.net> Subject: M-I: Enough, please Date: Sun, 2 Mar 1997 17:49:02 +0200 Dear Comrades, This list is an international list dedicated to providing a forum for debate and discussion for real struggles around the world. There seem to be an overabundance of subscribers who spend their energy towards flaming and endless and repetitive discussion, insults, threats and such. The moderators have decided to take action against the state of the list. Also, we'd like to remind you that the moderators are not salaried to moderate the list, they have jobs, lives, families, responsibilities, etc. They can't respond as quickly as they'd like to. 1. Adolfo Olaechea is suspended from posting for two weeks for the contents of his posts. Although the tone is bordering on satire, the moderators don't now or in the future want to have a list which discusses the "worth" of the life of its members who call themselves on the side of the working class, joke or no joke, satire or satire. The moderators would like to remind Adolfo that the rules also clearly forbid sexist language and hence he, as all list members, has to refrain from terminology of "castrated eunuchs" etc, along with calling list-members "agent provocateur", which is again banned in the list rules. Any list member who think he/she has serious evidence of another list-member being a cop must first contact the moderators. 2. Jay Miles is suspended from posting for one week for his cartoons. Although it could be claimed that they were meant as jokes, no "jokes" that discuss the "worth" of the life of list members are allowed, as explained in the Adolfo's case. 3. Jerry Levy is suspended for two weeks for repeated and purposeful attempts at destroying the list. Except for a brief interruption, his only aim and purpose in this list has been to prove it should be destroyed, instead of trying to improve it. He has been provoking flames and the last flame war was also provoked by his "proposal" of committing suicide. A few people have been warned privately about their conduct during the last "episode". I'd like to add that, in the future, the first time anybody makes a comment, joke, satire, whatever about the worth of the lives of the list-members, they'll be expelled immediately. The list rules have no such provision, and I consider it an insult to have to specify such a rule. I'd also like to add that we'll also expell those whose sole purpose seems to be destroying the list. These suspensions are unfortunate, all three list members certainly have the potential to contribute to our understanding of various sides of the struggle. If they wish to exercise that option, they're welcome back. Zeynep --- from list marxism-international-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
