Schweickart, in a 1992 Science & Society piece entitled "Economic
Democracy: A Worthy Socialism That Would Really Work", states
that the market is just "a useful instrument for accomplishing
certain societal goals.  It has certain strengths, but also
inherent defects.  The trick is to employ this instrument
appropriately".

is that really all the market is - a device that can be shaped
to produce desirable (whatever they may be) outcomes...what
about all the ways that markets conceal and distort their operations
thereby confusing and misleading people about freedom, equality, 
human nature, money exchange & social relations...Michael
