Subject: Grad School Neurosis (Was Re: M-I: Grammatical Clique/Bourgeois


Brian and his fellow Buffalo revolutionists:

Your writings show that you suffer from a form of neurosis produced by an
overheated atmosphere of grad school "ideological struggles" (whatever they
are).

Don't confuse a storm in an academic teapot with struggles with
incomparably larger significance and consequence. Get a grip. Regain a
sense of proportion.

Further, if you profess to be engaged in a struggle on the cultural front,
you shouldn't dismiss the question of style, even grammar and typography.
Marxists used to take the Art of Propaganda seriously. Take a seminar in
Russian constructivism.

You guys are grad students in English or philosophy or something like that,
right? Can't you learn to write better? It looks as though decades of
formal education have been wasted on you. What a pity.
