In spite of Lew's/SPGB's outmoded parliamentarian approach/illusions to how workers attain class consciousness in their struggle to overthrow capitalist society ( which also left his SPGB on the sidelines when the revolutionary soviets and councils of workers (leading the peasants) overthew the bourgeois-landlord regime in Russia in 1917 and held the power for 4 or 5 years before this power was decimated from without and the workers power usurped from within). Still, Lew's clear understanding of the basic tenets/goals of Marx's socialism is light years ahead of most of his critics here (Boddhisatva, etc) which puts him light years closer to possibly being of some assistance to solving the present crisis of marxist theory (and practice) and of being of some positive value to the proletarian cause, present and future. The so-called analogies claiming to "refute " Lew's accurate elaborations of the Marxian critique of money -and wage slavery are just preposterous , these included examples of historical social systems of class rule and expolitation, slavery, feudalism, etc. even trumpeting of the wonders of the "market '" of capitalism itself. These last being not marxism but the long bankrupt nostrums of social democrats, lib-labs and state capitalism's supporters. Please, socialism/communism is a Qualitatively superior type of social system, not just taking the orders from a new class of elitist expoliters--but the majority running society in their own interests.. Hrrumph! And is not socialism the negation of exploitation of person by person, is not marxist revolution to set in motion the overturning of ALL exploitative capitalist relations , including money, waged labor, the rest of commodity production thru workers direct control of society? Is it not to solidify the MATERIAL and Social basis in the transition from 'government over people to the administration of things"? And finally , to the present day to day struggles that communists must help the workers unite for battle under, to build a re-vamped mass movement that can bring the collective power of the workers forward, even as we fight in these, is it not the duty of marxists to "inscribe on their banners --not a fair days wage for a fair days work, but abolition of the wages system" (Marx)? For those "marxists" who think this all 'utopian" and the "plan of dreamers" , then i can only say to them and their state capitalism and other schemes to gain careers reforming capitalist imperialism, that they have learned nothing from the experiences of the workers cause over the last 70 years. Their "socialism from above" is really dead even if they still have a pulse. Neil --- from list marxism-international-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
