From: cbcox-AT-rs6000.cmp.ilstu.edu (Carrol Cox) Subject: Re: M-I: A fusillade towards the past. What is Fascism? Date: Tue, 13 May 1997 16:29:44 -0500 (CDT) Over a year ago there was a cyber-seminar on fascism, which I believe was pretty inconclusive (as one would expect). It is worth exploring again (and probably again and again and again). My own tendency over the years has been (when reacting spontaneously) to be quick on the trigger in throwing the label "fascism" around and, on reflection, to be very resistant to using it. The reason being that (a) I don't like to blur the brutality that is "normal" to capitalist rule with a historically specific (and aggressively terroristic) form of capitalist rule by labelling all brutality fascist, and (b) I think fascism (in some very specific form) remains a permanent possibility of capitalism, and we don't want to blunt the defense against fascism by calling everything we don't like fascist. For these reasons I side with Doug rather than Louis G in the debate below: Carrol Doug Henwood wrote: > > Louis R Godena wrote: > > >My > >point is that American Jews -- liberal or conservative -- have actively, or > >at least passively, supported Zionism -- which is after all, Jewish fascism, > >is it not? > > No, it isn't.
