Russian state capitalist imperialist expansion existed from the late 30s onward. First with its typical imperialist E. European spheres of influence deal and alliance ( yes ,temporary- as most imperialists eventually have a "falling out") with the Nazis in 1939, The Russians got Bessarabia from Rumania , their irredentist claims on E. Poland and got to occupy all 3 Balts in 1940 thru military force on these weaker capitalist states. After they allied with the USA , British, and other imperialisms to defeat Nazi imperialist war machine , they were finally allowed at the W. Imperialist conference table given big power status to divvy up the NEW post- WW2 spheres of influence. This was duly accomplished with the Stalinos meeting with Churchill and British imperialism in Moscow in Oct '44 and with the Americans at Yalta in Feb. '45. Enough evidence, even from stalino diplomats and Allies, including then alied Tito people (Djilas, Kidric etc.) that S. Europe and Balkans were divided by percents in countries based on party support/army force in government in '44-45. Stalin and Churchill arranged the divvy-up with no concern for the proletariat vs. new capital /overlords and Stalin even agreed that "leftist workers and partisans taking siezing property ' in France-Italy should surrender arms and supplies to Franco-british-american armies or be put down by force.. The following are the russo/british imperialist split of loot/spheres which the american imperialism later as the 'cold war" ensued by late '46, early '47 found too 'generous' toward Russia . Greece --British 90-10% Yugoslavia--50-50 Bulgaria--Russia 75-25% Rumania --Russia 75-25 Of course there was the settlement over W. Europe that was not completely settled on paper until 1955. Russia would later intervene to prop -up its state cap allies by armed force, like E. Germany against workers strikes in 1953, crushing worker soviets in Hungary in 1956 in Hungary and even smashing milquetoast party reformists 1968 in Czechoslovakia not just to keep western imperialism at bay --but to maintain its main markets, invested joint stock companies , and advantageous trade with pliant E. Euopean govts. Its "aid" to Cuba had many strings attached , as Che Guevara warned about as he secretly then publicly denounced Russia as fake marxists in 1965 and pointed out they , like the USA, etc 'exploited third world countries" For that he was forced out of his formal Cuban government posts by USSR protests--threats of economic reprisals... If Russia was not an imperialist, she would have helped Cuba industrialize her economy which she did not, Cuba was "kept" as a mainly one or two (sugar-tobacco) crop producer with only a few light industries, under capitalized and hence in new dependent status to the USSR, Today many a Cuban state cap government official and retired officials admit that ex-USSR, Bulgaria, E. Germany were not socialist after all but a form of state capitalism. Neil --- from list marxism-international-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
