Lisa McGowan, who's a smart economist with the U.S. wing of the 50 Years Is Enough campaign says that his plans are pure neoliberal orthodoxy, just like his patron Museveni of Uganda. It's not for nothing that Kabila turned over the diamond mines to a firm based in Hope, Arkansas. The man from Hope, Bill Clinton, is pushing an Africa initiative that means deals for well-connected U.S. businesses and further austerity and market opening in Africa. I hope I'm wrong, but I think Kabila will turn out to be part of this.
