dear Steve P.

I did not mean to deprecate the efforts of
honest rank and file CPers who wanted
to stick on the class terrain of struggle
and build a socialist world.
I do demarcate these small minorities
from the CP apparatus.
But it was impossible to "revolutionize"
the CP --especially after it definitively
crossed the class line-
1) Its support for stalinisms reversal/strangulation
of the aspirations and goals of the
Oct. '17 revolution and the international
in the 20s..
2) open support for the US cap. state
via the entry into the Democratic Party
left wing.
3) Support for imperialist war .

Those "left" wing US CPer groups who"tried" in the mid 40s
to do so , such as their veteran stalwart
William Dunne faction in 1946
and Harrison George group in 1947
were quickly and unceremoniously expelled
on the spot as the CP cannot tolerate debate
from its ranks ,especially on questions of principle and strategy
and the party does not tolerate factions period, especially
those having anything to do with marxism..

It has no probems however allowing priests, government bureaucrats,
union hacks, pacifists, memership with good standing.

It is recognized here that Louis P. has nailed certain egregious policies
and terroristic methods of Stalin , the man , but I believe that though
rejecting the forms , he still upholds the essence of the stalin-ist type
society as a model for workers and others to support .
That is part of the rub.

Neil
