G'day James.

My immediate response to your response is to say that you have over
interpreted what I said, but that is of little concern. I am though still
inclined to think that the Windsors have been weakened. But I agree with
you that servility is in the heart of the English people and it will take
more than the "floral revolution" to root it out.

As for your response to Elton John, I feel you miss the significance of
what I was saying and what the song was about. Of course it was maudlin,
mawkish etc but it was all part of the star phenomenon and it did mark a
significant step forward for an openly gay man.

If I had to sum it all up I would say that Di-ism represents the "sigh of
the oppressed, the heart of the heartless world" etc. The need of the
people is very real, and of course Di was never going to satisfy it. But
she did spark off desire and ultimately it is desire which will bring the
bourgeoisie (and the Windsors) crashing down. The trick though is the
education of desire. That is the task of the revolutionary vanguard!!

But think of those grim ugly Windsor faces staring out with barely
concealed hatred at the coffin as it passed. Now that was genuine drama and
in its way totally fascinating.

regards

Gary
