Neil:

Your posting lays out very nicely the extremely anti-nationalist position
of a very few Marxists. I disagree with you repsecfully but totally. I'v
written stuff on this question, mainly a book *The National Question:
Decolonizing the Theory of Nationalism*. I've also put out messages to this
list and LeninList which dispute the position you argue, and I'd be glad to
resurrect them and re-post them. (One deals mainly with the Luxemburgists,
another critiques Stalin's theory of nations/nationalism, showing how
Lenin's evolved view dismissed the arguments in Stalin's 1913 essay, e.g.,
that national-state formation was only progressive in the 19th century.)

Unfortunately, I don't have time now to get into a general debate on the
national question. Perhaps some of the other comrades will join the fray.
Certainly anybody who supports anti-colonial movements past and present
would have to disagree with you vehemently.
