The inertia of the earth (land and oceans)-atmosphere system is so 
great that changes once begun are very difficult to reverse. That is 
what is worrying the scientists. It looks like our planet's climate 
will undergo changes that will last for a long time to come. And with 
devastating consequences for life on earth.
