While I'm at it, I've just written Adolfo Olaechea, soliciting from him a few appropirate remarks on the one hundredth and fiftieth anniversary of the *Communist Manifesto*. Adolfo, as we all know, is not only an able and dedicated revolutionary, but a brilliant essayist, to boot. I am anxious to hear his reply, but only if it is an agreeable one! In the meantime, I have dusted off EH Carr's excellent essay on that seminal document, written on the occasion of its centenary in 1948. How much the world has changed! And how little...
