The problem is, there is no room left for capitalism to manoevre.  A
century ago, there were still new markets to be found, new sources of
labor, raw materials etc.  Since then capitalism (in the form of
imperialism, as the highest stage) has conquered nearly every last
corner of the globe.

Now what we have is "many capitals" willing to slaughter each other over
diminishing resources.  Not a good recipe for the continuation of
capitalism -- socialism or barbarism, as Luxemburg put it.
