Godena, The bill should be rejected out of hand since it is an obvious attempt to harass labor and meant only to serve that purpose. What is interesting about it is that it reflects the depths to which labor has sunk, and the divergence between main-stream left politics and any sense of class identification. For the membership it should be a no-brainer - your union does what is best for unionism. If you belong to a union and, say, the NRA or a "right-to-life" group, your dues money for each group will be going to opposite parties in support of specific issues. In a reformist world, that should be no surprise. To a Marxist, that picture is wrong. It should be to a unionist as well, but American unions have given up promoting unionism and simply promote themselves. This makes sense in a context of left-wing politics that have become a laundry list of special interest issues. The right has capitalism, cultural imperialism and Christianity to unite them. The left has nothing and unions have simply become another check-box on the laundry list. peace --- from list marxism-international-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
