     I often find that a good way to shake up my largely 
conservative Republican students is to inform them that the 
only signature of Karl Marx owned by the US government is 
on a letter from the First International to the first 
Republican president, Abraham Lincoln, congratulating him 
on his re-election as president in 1864.  Therefore, I tell 
them, the Republican Party is actually a communist 
conspiracy! :-)
