Date: Fri, 20 Mar 1998 15:07:20 +0000 From: Mark Jones <Jones_M-AT-netcomuk.co.uk> Subject: M-I: That State thing Gary, stop whining and see thru your self-pity to the truth about how all those passers-by really feel about their lives. Since you do not have, and none of us has, any remedies for those people's problems, quit grieving and quit sentimentalising the past. This tearful public defeatism of yours, it's not just demeaning, it's bizarrely inappropriate and unnecessary. Face facts. The self-preoccupation of all those people who don't buy your wretched paper is entirely sensible. I've downloaded that Green Weekly thing, and let's face it, even if this offered a lifebelt to the drowning, you'd choke on its boredom. But it doesn't even float, does it? Where, in the Green-lettuce weekly, do you tell people the only possible thing they need to know, i.e., how to overthrow the Australian state? Of course, you don't, but without that, everything is just a mockery of honest working class folks; you offer people downtrodden and burdened with terrible problems, nothing but more problems. To the few who feel euphoric about the world -- maybe not so few ina metropole like Australia -- you offer only the chance to destroy the things that make them euphoric. So exactly what do you expect, except to be told to piss off? You are a sentimentalist who dreams of the Ulster housing estates you long ago quitted. You have no intention of jeopardising your own superannuation by doing anything more dangerous than your lachrymose newspaper pitches. So why should those sanguine pedestrians spare you a second look? The great trick neo-liberalism has performed is to persuade the whole world and its wife that revolution on its own street corner, in its own allotment/pigeon fanciers club/tenement residents association/wildlife club/hen-party outings group -- is impossible. Only world revolution can change my street corner. But actually this is a miraculous preparation for the world revolution which will happen, which really will happen, so what are you complaining about? Don't you WANT revolution. Revolution. Do you argue for that, in every sentence you utter, in all your life deeds? Revolution. But you are only half way there -- and already you are blaming your fellow workers for their indolence and indifference! There is no Australian state, no EU, no Albion, let alone Indonesia or Russia or Brazil. There is only US imperialism and its numerous instances, and we are going to make war on it and destroy it. If you don't think so, find a more comfortable niche to go to. There is revolution. There is people's war. There is the working class which will fight to the death or not fight at all. And that's all there is, not counting wankers. Mark --- from list marxism-international-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
