Franco's talk started by noting that the three bios together make up 2000 pages on a figure that (as is continually claimed in these 2000 pages) is supposedly irrelevant to the present. Che is painted as part of an era of impossible dreams and inevitable failure; and in describing him, "futile" is supposedly the key word. The bios aim to re-assert the significance of the individual--an individual that the kill softly through tedium. Etc.
