In 1877 the Canadian goverment is said to have signed Treaty
7 with the Blackfoot People at Blackfoot Crossing in what is now Alberta,
Canada. This treaty was declared a FRAUD by a group of Blackfoot People
meeting in the community center at Glenwood, Alberta on Saturday, March 7,
1998.

The treaty was declared a fraud because it was written by a bunch
of whitemen who were loyal to a queen the Indian peple did not know about
its meaning because it was in a language they did not understand. In fact,
it was pointed out that Treay 7 was "Signed" by one person making the same
"mark" on paper on behalf of the Indian men who were present. It was
pointed out to those at the meeting that none of the Indian men even
touched the pen they was said to have used to sign the fraudulent document.

Treaty 7 was also declared to be a fraud for another reason.
It was not then, or in the present time, meant to be the Blackfoot Peoples
purpose to sign away their life and land to self proclaimed benevolant
whites who were supposedly bringing them the benefits of "civilization".

The Glenwood meeting was also proof that the Blackfoot people were
never a "conquered people" as the white history books like to tell it. The
people were in fact in no position to fight because the were still in grief
over the loss of hundreds of thousands of people due to the whitemans
disease. So, it cannot besaid that the Blackfoot were defeated in any fair
manner on the field of military battle. It was declared that the Glenwood
meeting was for the purpose of declaring their own kind of war against
fraudulent acts by the whiteman in the past century.

The Glenwood meeting was/is in fact proof that the Blackfoot are
now exerting their rights as a group of NATIONS . . . . not a disorganized
group of "tribes". Those at the the meeting agreed the name tribe was an
improper characterization of our people. The use of the word is meant to
make us feel small and insignificant, used as a means of furthur
practicing the whitemans war of words on us as real, self governing people.

It was unanimously agreed the word we must begin to use is NATION,
because we are a NATION and not a tribe.
